Laughing Kookaburra, Audobon Zoo, New Orleans, LA, 2007-Jul-21

Image 2 of the three day series. While taking these pictures of the Laughing Kookaburra, I was squatted down on my heels (ass-to-grass, as they say in the gym). Suddenly the kookaburra, which had been sitting calmly on the rope, flew right at me! As I toppled over backwards, I quickly snapped a photo, which although decidedly unfocused, still hopefully gives you the idea of what it felt like having this bird (who is about 16″ with that tail) flying directly at you.

Pssst… Go ahead and hit delete on this comment, but the link is broken. It looks like the .jpg is missing from the end of the URL.

I teach 3rd grade music and we study Australia, specifically the kookaburra. Two students excitedly wrote down your site and brought it to me so that I might share it with the class, giving them credit for the find, of course. I am very disappointed that you had to use a swear word and that I cannot support these excited students. Was it really necessary?

Well, it certainly didn’t occur to me that third graders would read my site. I apologize if it offended you, but ATG is a very common term in the gym, and it was clearly not used in swearing sense at all. I am sorry you feel you can’t give them credit for finding my photos of the kookaburra in spite of it.
