Just how hot does it get here? New Orleans is HOT and muggy…. the other afternoon I had purchased an iced tea. I forgot to take the cup out of my car, and the next day it sat in the cup holder for a few hours. My car sits in a parking lot at the apartment complex, not in a garage, so it gets full sun exposure. This is what the cup became:

I hear that July and August are the worst months for heat, and that the heat continues through September and even often into October. Whew. I don’t know if I will get used to this!

The various tourism boards don’t like to talk about it, but in an average year, the Gulf Coast states have more than a dozen incidents of tourists spontaneously bursting into flames.
Still, this does suggest a new area for the web site — “Amy’s Dashboard: Things I Left in the Car.”
You could fill it up with photos of various things you’ve left in the car on hot days. A plastic cup, an LP record, a tray of cookies… The possibilities are endless.
And then, come January, you could visit Maine for a few weeks and do a series of photos with frozen beverages.

One caution however. When you decide to do the photo of what happens to a box of crayons, be sure to put something under them.

I look forward to seeing your new photo gallery.
Just remember, when you get around to the photo with the box of crayons, you should probably put something under them.

I’ll pick up a cheap little box of crayons this weekend…

Crayons are in the car. (I have a sheet of paper under them.) Haven’t checked the forecast yet though…

NOLA is supposed to hit 90 — with scattered thunderstorms. DC however is looking at triple digits.
Perhaps you should come here to do your experiment.

I wish. :-7 Too bad I’m stuck here instead! You could put some crayons in your car - it’s lunchtime right? Pick some up at lunch.

My car’s parked on the lowest level of a nice shady parking garage. They’d have to be some really seriously cheap crayons to melt under those circumstances.
